The City of Peoria’s first priority is public safety. For example, dealing with tree limbs hanging over the public right-of-way or blocking streets and alleys.

After the storm has passed the area, cleanup will begin. The City and Peoria Disposal Company (PDC) personnel ask residents for their cooperation in this effort. Residents are asked to follow these steps in assisting with debris collection:

First, please properly prepare the landscape debris caused by the storm in:

  • 30-gallon biodegradable paper yardwaste bags, weighing no more than 50 lbs.
  • 90-gallon wheeled toters (available from PDC)
  • 32-gallon garbage cans with handles, weighing no more than 50 lbs.
  • Bundles less than 4-feet long and less than 50 lbs. in weight, tied using rope or twine.

Landscape debris must be cut and bundled so it can be safely placed in the back of the rear-loading packer trucks. A good rule of thumb is if in doubt, it is better to use several cans. Collection drivers service hundreds of homes each day. Driver safety is a high priority to minimize back and shoulder injuries and cuts to the face, hands and legs.

Finally, residents are asked to please be patient with the cleanup schedule. Collecting all of the debris will take time. No public or private organization currently has the resources to single-handedly clean up Peoria. Debris pickup is a team effort and your cooperation is necessary to ensure that cleanup is as fast and efficient as possible.
