Non-owner occupied property owners must now register their properties annually with the Inspections Department for an annual fee of $50.  Click here to see changes to the ordinance.

For 2011 and beyond, properties must be registered between January 1st and March 1st.

Failure to register your property annually will result in a ticket being issued for each violation of the ordinance.

An exception to registering non-owner occupied structures has been added allowing properties occupied by an immediate family member (defined as an owner's parent, sibling, spouse, or child) may be exempted from registering the property as non-owner occupied if a family exemption form is filed with the Department of Inspections.

In addition to this change, the inspection aspect of the ordinance has also changed. Properties will be subject to an inspection  no more than once every three years and at least once every seven years.  The inspection fee and first reinspection fee will be waived but upon the second reinspection a $100 fee will be assessed.

Landlords and tenants are also required to conduct an interior life safety inspections.  The landlord and tenant will be required prior to occupancy or at least once a year, whichever is more frequent, to conduct this self-inspection.
