The purpose of the Advisory Committee for the Disabled is to represent and promote the interest of citizens with disabilities to the end that there shall be (1) adequate public and private services for maintaining and improving the health and welfare of persons with disabilities; (2) adequate dissemination of information concerning the interest, problems and affairs of persons with disabilities; (3) adequate community and individual activities to stimulate and fulfill the interest of persons with disabilities; and (4) to develop new ways to utilize the talents and resources of citizens with disabilities.
The Mayor's Advisory Committee for the Disabled consists of twelve members. Seven must have some form of a disability. The Commissioners serve three year staggered terms ending June 30 of each year. Staff support is provided by the Equal Opportunity Office.
The Mayor's Advisory Committee for the Disabled meets the second Tuesday of each month in Peoria City Hall. The current Chairperson of the MACD is Commissioner Roger Sparks.
