CITY OF PEORIA LITTER CAMPAIGN

Since 2006 the Mayor’s Litter Committee has collaborated with neighborhood groups, schools, churches, businesses, City leaders and staff, to attack the blight of litter strewn about our streets, sidewalks and alleys. The committee is made up of volunteers who devote their energy, and an occasional Saturday morning, to canvass our neighborhoods and collect paper and
Styrofoam cups, paper and plastic bags, cardboard, and bottles.

The litter campaign has always benefitted from the leadership of a volunteer
who is appointed by the Mayor. Diana Hall, president of Bard Optical, is the
current leader of the litter campaign. She and the committee are working to
revitalize the campaign with an emphasis on:

  •  recruiting new members for the Litter Committee;
  • recruiting a reliable pool of adult and student volunteers for neighborhood cleanups;
  • educating children and adults about the impact of litter on our environment;
  • advocating for the enforcement of existing litter ordinances;
  • enlisting monetary and material support from the private sector and business community.

Membership on the Litter Committee is open to the public. The committee
meets on the third Thursday of each month at 5:15 P.M. - 6:15 P.M., in Peoria City
Hall, 419 Fulton Street.
