The Peoria Fire Department is dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the environment while maintaining a proactive approach to safety and service as our first priority. Firefighters are responding to a broader range of emergency services than ever before, and our focus for the future is evaluating resources and delivering exceptional service while overseeing the safety and well being of our fire officers.

Meet the Chief

 

Chief Kent Tomblin joined the Peoria Fire Department on May 7, 1979. During his nearly thirty two years with the Department, he has served in the ranks as firefighter, engineer, captain, battalion chief, and assistant chief.   He was appointed Fire Chief of the City of Peoria on February 19, 2007.

Chief Tomblin acquired an Associate's Degree in Fire Science from Illinois Central College in 1983 and has attained numerous certificates and training throughout his career. He participated in studies at the George Meany School of Labor and Illinois State University. He was an Executive Board Member of Peoria Firefighters' Union Local 50 for twenty years, serving as President from 1994-2000 and was Secretary/Treasurer of the Associated Firefighters of Illinois (AFFI).  He graduated from the National Fire Academy's Executive Officer Development Program in 2006 and is currently working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Service Management from Southern Illinois University. He was appointed by Governor Blagojevich to chair the Fire Service Advisory Board for the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office and has been the recipient of the Eugene G. Moore Community Service Award and the State of Illinois AFL-CIO Robert Gibson Community Service Award.

Chief Tomblin and his wife, Laura, have seven children· Mandi, Misti, Michelle, Mallori, Dalton, Cody, and Anne; three grandsons, Myles, Madyn, and Masyn.
