Water Street Construction

May 25, 2010

The Water Street Reconstruction from Liberty Street to Hamilton Boulevard is well underway. The contractor closed Water Street from the entrance to Riverfront Village on Water Street through the Main Street intersection to Hamilton Boulevard on May 1, 2010. This section of roadway will be closed for 60 days so the contractor can raise the road 3 feet in some spots and avoid high water flooding events.

The construction is on schedule at this time with the contractor finishing up a cast in place concrete wall beside the Caterpillar parking deck to allow for the raising of Water Street. Sidewalk has been poured from Hamilton Boulevard to the entrance into the Caterpillar parking deck. The planter wall is partially constructed near the railroad tracks and will continue to be built as the road fill is being placed. New water main is currently being placed while other utility companies such as Ameren moving gas main that is in conflict, AT&T relocating their overhead telephone lines to underground, and Ameren removing their overhead power lines and removing their utility poles.

Next week Stark Excavating, Inc. will continue placing fill to raise Water Street through the intersection of Main Street. They will start setting up to pour the concrete curb and gutter early in June so that the pavement will be in and open by July 3.
