Citizens' Police Academy
The goal of an academy such as this is to:
educate and inform citizens of Peoria
to provide a forum for police / community interaction
to foster a partnership through greater understanding of the department's policies and procedures.
The academy will take place mainly at the police station in the Community Training Room but will potentially have "off-site" locations as well, depending on the topic. In years past, the training consisted of 12 classes that met every other Wednesday between 6 pm and 9 pm. The topics covered will be similar to:
- Uniformed Patrol
- Special Investigations
- Street Crimes Unit
- Traffic Division
- Crime Scene Investigation
- Criminal Investigations
- K9
- Dispatch
- Crime View Mapping
- Crime Stoppers
- Special Response Team
- Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team
